Barry Somes
Barry Somes grew up surrounded by stories that carried weight, history, and heart. His roots trace back to Abigail Somes, a survivor of the Salem Witch Trials whose strength and endurance have long shaped his understanding of human resilience. That spirit, paired with the vivid tales shared by his grandfather, a beloved Maine storyteller, sparked Barry’s fascination with narrative and set the foundation for his writing life.
Deeply involved in Maine’s creative community, Barry is an active member of the Maine Authors and Publishers Alliance and a frequent participant in the Maine Crime Writers Conference. His dedication to the craft has garnered international attention, including a 2025 award that recognizes his contributions to the mystery and suspense genres.
Barry’s life outside of writing is just as rich. He has served his community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, led the Falmouth, Maine, Fire Department as President, and chaired the Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee. His commitment to service also extends to environmental advocacy through the Maine Chapter of the Sierra Club, and to children in need through Lids for Kids, a charity he founded to provide warm winter gear.
Echoes Of The Earth
“Echoes of the Earth” invites readers into a tense and brilliantly layered world where the past refuses to stay buried, and the future of global power hangs on a single truth long kept in the dark. Barry Somes blends science fiction, political intrigue, and emotional depth to explore what happens when humanity’s most significant discoveries fall into the wrong hands, or are hidden by the very institutions meant to protect us.
The story reaches back to the moment the world celebrated Apollo 11. While history has marked it as a triumph of exploration, Somes reveals a more profound, yet concealed discovery: Helium-3, a lunar isotope capable of reshaping the Earth’s energy future. Instead of ushering in progress, the breakthrough was buried to protect powerful interests. Decades of silence followed—until the secret resurfaces and ignites a conflict that stretches from government war rooms to the dusted surface of the Moon.
Some words from our clients
From the first chapter, I knew this story was something rare. The tension, the mystery, the emotion..everything pulled me in. I couldn’t stop thinking about it afterward.
I read it in two sittings. The blend of science, secrecy, and real human struggle felt so vivid. This book made me question everything we assume about power.
agent 0130 instantly became one of my favorite characters. Her strength, fear, and choices felt incredibly real. I’m still replaying certain scenes in my mind.
This is the kind of story that surprises you. Every chapter reveals something bigger, and just when you think you understand, it shifts again. Completely immersive.
I love when a book makes me feel smart and entertained at the same time. The plot is sharp, the writing confident, and the ideas stay with you.
The world-building is so believable that I caught myself thinking about Helium-3 as if it were headline news. A gripping, thought-provoking read I’d recommend to anyone.
